Opening up in 2026
So here we are. A new year. Opening up a new page in life’s diary.
New:
When I ponder on the word ‘new’, my nose fills with the scent of new car seats in a brand new car. Or I imagine I am burying my face in a puppy’s soft fur and breathing in that unique puppy smell that only lasts a week or two. Or I can smell the sweet aroma of newly mown grass. Don’t you just love opening up something new?
Opening up Unbridling: Our first consignment
How blessed are we to have opened up the first consignment of our recently published book, Unbridling? As you can see from the photos, Sheryl’s dog, Tannah, was arguably even more excited than we were. Perhaps Tannah knows she also features in the book?

Cape Flats Book Festival
Sheryl and I are honoured to be part of the upcoming Cape Flats Book Festival, where Beryl Eichenberger will be chatting to us about stepping up to the impossible. (West End Primary School; 31 January 2026; 14:25 – 15:05).
We are so inspired by the work that Read To Rise does to encourage literacy. Check their website out: https://www.readtorise.co.za/
We are also eagerly looking forward to listening to other authors, poets and literary artists at the Cape Flats Festival. It will be our first time – a totally new experience. I can already smell the freshly cut grass!
There are so many people to thank for helping us get to the point of opening up our first consignment of books. You are all mentioned in the book. But we would especially like to mention Karina Szczurek and Kerry Hammerton from Karavan Press and Indeed Books, Gail Gilbride, and Jo-Anne Richards and Richard Beynon from AllAboutWriting.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Cape Flats Book Festival.
