About Us
IsAbility Sports Club Limpopo is a registered Non-Profit Organisation with registration number 256-850NPO. The Club has its own constitution and is affiliated to LIMA (Limpopo Athletics Association) and Limpopo SAPD (Sports Association for the Physically Disabled).
Background Of The Project
IsAbility Gauteng is a Gauteng based sports club that specializes in creating awareness of opportunities for differently-abled as well as able-bodied athletes, and then developing these athletes further to participate at provincial, national and international levels, or simply to participate for social and physical well-being.
In 2018 an initiative was launched in Louis Trichardt to work towards establishing a satellite IsAbility Club with similar aims in the Limpopo Province. There is currently limited development of disabled athletes in Limpopo Province, which is unfortunate since “Sport is generally regarded as one of the vital components in the integration of people with disabilities into society. It is also often a vital component in the successful rehabilitation of people with disabilities.” (quoted from the “Integrated National Disability Strategy – White paper of the Office of the President)”.

GAUTENG MASS PARTICIPATION ATHLETICS EVENT
26 May 2018
Local hemiplege, Sheryl James, born and raised in Louis Trichardt, Vhembe, Limpopo, (who has raised the bar for Cerebral Palsied people by excelling in horse sports competing on a Provincial level against able-bodied riders, and running the Comrades marathon three times), participated on invitation of IsAbility Gauteng at their Mass participation event. Surprising everyone with her times in the sprints, Sheryl was asked to think of participating on a more competitive level.

Surprising everyone with her times in the sprints, Sheryl was asked to think of participating on a more competitive level. This was the beginning of a journey of discovery regarding opportunities for differently-abled sportsmen and women and the need for development thereof in Limpopo Province.
In the eight years since Sheryl’s initiation into the world of parasport by Is Ability Gauteng, in the short space of two years she has broken South African and African records, ,and set a new Commonwealth Games record in 2022 in Birmingham in the 100m T37 event. She has competed in Sharjah and Dubai (UAE), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Kobe and Tokyo in Japan, twice in Paris and once in India. She has gathered a number of silver, bronze and gold medals along the way. She is passionate about assisting para-athletes in Limpopo Province to access opportunities in sport that can open up a new world for them.

Attended by more than 300 athletes, the event was graced by the presence of rising national and international sensation, double amputee Ntando Mahlangu (holder of a number of world records). Extensive and very effective media coverage was provided leading up to, on the day, and after the event by SABC 2’s programme “Beyond Boundaries” and local newspaper, the Soutpansberger, as well as a local Radio Station.
At this mass participation event, Vhutuhawe Nemutandani, a young double amputee from the Tshilidzini Special School received a prosthetic limb courtesy of a local sponsor and the Jumping Kids initiative – the same Jumping Kids that launched Ntando Mahlangu to his successful athletics career. Many visually impaired and physically challenged athletes had their first ever opportunity to participate in various track and field events on a fun basis.
PARA-ATHLETE CLASSIFICATION- Limpopo
10 November 2018
For any para-athlete to participate provincially, nationally or internationally, the athlete needs to be evaluated and classified into a category that enables the athlete to participate against similarly-abled athletes. This classification is a scientific, timeconsuming process and requires qualified, accredited medical and technical classifiers.

GAUTENG MASS PARTICIPATION ATHLETICS EVENT
For any para-athlete to participate provincially, nationally or internationally, the athlete needs to be evaluated and classified into a category that enables the athlete to participate against similarly-abled athletes. This classification is a scientific, time-consuming process and requires qualified, accredited medical and technical classifiers.
On 10 November 2018, having identified and made contact with various clubs and potential athletes at the Mass Participation Event, the local Is Ability team convened and funded a classification day in Louis Trichardt. This enabled some of our local athletes who had never before had the opportunity to undergo official classification, to undergo classification under the expert eye of local physiotherapist and qualified International Para-athlete classifier, Louisa Kirsten, together with “imported” classifier from Gauteng, Charmaine de Bruyn.
Amongst others, double amputee, Vhutuhawe Nemutandani, who had recently received his “jumping Kids” prosthesis at the Mass Event, was able to start his journey of classification on 10 November. Who knows…. Perhaps he is the country’s next Ntando Mahlangu – right here in our midst.
This classification day enabled some of our local athletes, who would otherwise not have been eligible, to attend and represent Limpopo Province at the SASAPD (South African Sport Association for Physically Disabled ), National championships in Stellenbosch in March 2019.
