Someone is following me?
Have you ever had the feeling that you’re being followed? I was warming up on the deserted track during one of my recent training sessions at Makwarela Stadium in Thohoyandou, when the realisation hit me. Should I run faster to escape? It sounded like the footsteps behind me were getting closer. Speeding up would maybe be a good idea. But … would I be fast enough to get away?
It turned out he was a 64 year old member of the Thulamela Senior Citizens soccer club. He was also warming up on the track. Their team practice was scheduled to begin at 08:30. Elvis proceeded to join me for some stretch exercises. Shortly afterwards, we were joined by his 79 year old team mate, Mr Ratshibvumo. I was focussed on my task for the day. Nothing daunted, the two gentlemen insisted on sprinting a few of the drills with me. And I must say, their energy was impressive. Then again … YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD!
Never too old to dream; never too old to start.
Something that I mentioned in an interview with a journalist from EYEWITNESS NEWS recently, was “You are never too old to dream and never too old to start.” Check out the article at this link:

While I continued with my training session that morning, the seven members of the Thulamela Senior Citizens continued to do a serious session of drills, honing their skills for an upcoming match. I find their dedication and energy truly inspirational. I certainly hope that one day, when I am older, I will still have the passion for life that was evident in this group of healthy senior citizens! This is just lovely ❤️
